Coalition Seeks for a Special Ministry for Old People in Nigeria

Some group of parties who formed a government that was titled The Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older People in Nigeria (COSROPIN) has risen to seek for a Special Ministry that will be ministering based on the affairs of the old men and women in the country.



On Tuesday, the president of the coalition, Sen. Eze Ajoku, stated that the aim of there proposal is to help cushion effects of COVID-19 among the old people in the country and also to ensure adequate madical attention and provision of good health care centers for the old people in Nigeria.

The president of the coalition, in his own view, stated that the reasons for the increase in number of deaths among the old people in Nigeria, is due to the ways some state governments overlooks their old citizen by not providing them with the required medical attentions they needed.

Sen. Eze Ajoku, while making the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, passionately complained on how some state governments have been less concerned about the old people in their states and the way the old citizens have been suffering even in the ongoing pandemic.

The president of the coalition also mentioned some certain cares that the old people in Nigeria need, which include the social protection support, their pension,adequate health coverage, housing, social infrastructure, economic relief, just as president Muhammadu Buhari has created Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs , the ministry for the old people affairs should also be considered in all the 36 states in Nigeria.

"The governors and local government chairmen should ensure that they amend things in a way that the old people will be benefiting from it" Sen. Eze Ajoku advised.
